Part Four: Interviewing Local Artists for Art Walking Tour

Fargo Walking Tours Artist Interview Series: Upper Hand Signs

About Upper Hand Signs

Hear from Cory Gillerstein, one half of the Upper Hand Signs duo, in this artist interview. Upper Hand Signs painted the Welcome to Roberts Alley mural to coincide with Earth Day 2015 and the kick off of a larger initiative to improve Fargo’s alleys. For a typical sign the letters are brightly painted, but for this sign they chose to paint the background and let the white letters pop. This helps the sign feel more like a mural and use more of the painting space. Check out this bonus video showing the process of projecting and painting this mural!

Listen to the interview to hear more about Upper Hand Signs, the Welcome to Roberts Alley mural, and other projects they are working on in and around Fargo.

Our Artist Interview Series

This interview was conducted by Civic Innovation Force Fellow Emily Hopfauf as a component of an art walking tour for Downtown Fargo. Audio interviews with Upper Hand Signs and other artists are being integrated into a self-guided art walking tour to give users a look into the perspective of the artists. The walking tours being developed will provide a framework for learning, exploring, and interacting in new ways with our community, even as social distancing practices remain the norm.
