Part Three: Interviewing Local Artists for Art Walking Tour

Fargo Walking Tours Artist Interview Series: Dark Elvis (John)

About Dark Elvis (John)

Dark Elvis (find him on Instagram at @darkelvis83) is an artist who loves Mario, leading him to create the Mario Wall mural (completed with @starlinghero in the alley behind Pickled Parrot). Although he has no art background, he worked diligently to get the desired outcome, and loves how the public interacts with the piece. Playing video games as a kid meant that Mario was an iconic figure to John, creating the Mario Wall was a way to commemorate his past. In this interview, John talks about the process of creating the Mario Wall and future projects in the works.

Our Artist Interview Series

This interview was conducted by Civic Innovation Force Fellow DeAnna Hurley as a component of an art walking tour for Downtown Fargo. Audio interviews with Starling Hero (Lauren) and other artists are being integrated into a self-guided art walking tour to give users a look into the perspective of the artists. The walking tours being developed will provide a framework for learning, exploring, and interacting in new ways with our community, even as social distancing practices remain the norm.

Fargo Walking Tours is hosting an official launch event on Saturday, August 15 from 1 – 4pm. This is a free community event to celebrate the completion of the project. Several tour locations will host booths with activities, giveaways, and more.
